Frightful Knight
I am the nocturnal beast,
I do not dwell in light,
Your mind is where you’ll find my feast,
I am the frightful knight.
In dark rooms we ruminate,
About the thing we truly hate,
Is it all really fate?
Or is it all a choice that we make?
Do things change when we use our voice?
Whilst you lay in peaceful slumber,
Off my brain will go and wonder,
About what has been and what’s to come,
And let me tell you; it’s not fun.
Up until the rising sun,
As birds start to sing I lay awake,
I try to rest, for my own sake,
But income regrets, mistakes and fears,
Unsure about how much more I can take,
This life had reduced me down to tears.
Climate change and global pandemics,
I think the problem is systemic,
Wildfires and world’s at war,
It’s all become such a bore.
Desensitized to the news we hide away,
Hidden behind our screens,
A problem for another day,
But it doesn’t reduce it by any means.
